Key to Academic Transcript
Below is a summary of information found on the reverse of the Kansas City University official transcript. Please click the following link for the current PDF of the back of the official transcript.
The University currently operates on a semester basis. Prior to 1990, the academic year was comprised of trimester terms.
KCU is fully accredited by the Bureau of Professional Education of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). The AOA is the only accrediting agency for osteopathic medicine approved by the United States Department of Education and Council of Higher Education Accreditation. KCU is also accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The KCU Psychology Doctorate is approved by HLC, and will apply for full accreditation through the American Psychological Association when eligible.
Academic Renewal allows medical students who were readmitted after an absence of four or more years and whose previous cumulative GPA when last enrolled was less than 2.00, to begin anew. All previously earned grades remain on the transcript but are marked with an asterisk (*) to indicate they are no longer computed in the GPA or class rank, and they cannot be applied toward graduation requirements. Students readmitted under academic renewal are not eligible for Latin Honors.
Authenticity of Electronic (PDF) Transcripts
All official electronic transcripts sent by KCU will be marked with a certified blue ribbon in Adobe® Acrobat or Adobe® Reader bearing the words, "This document was certified by the National Student Clearinghouse with a valid certificate issued by GeoTrust CA for Adobe." Documents without this certification should not be accepted.
Course Numbering – Beginning 1999
|100||First year medical courses|
|200||Second year medical courses|
|300||Third year medical courses|
|400||Fourth year medical courses|
|500-600||Graduate level courses|
|100-500||Doctoral Psychology Courses|
NOTE: Course numbers followed by s denote elective sub-intern clerkships.
Prior to 1999, courses were identified numerically, by both a department and level number. The first two digits represented the department and the latter three numbers represented the course level. Courses numbered 500 were first year level, 600 second year, 700 third year, and 800 fourth year. Many third and fourth year courses were not numbered and were only identified by title.
Good Academic Standing
Professional degree-seeking students (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. Graduate degree-seeking students must achieve an overall program completion GPA of 3.00 or better to be considered in good academic standing. Students on academic probation are not considered in good standing.
The University utilizes the 4.0 grading system. The grade point average for a semester is determined by dividing the total number of quality points by the total number of graded semester hours. Prior to 1999, and also beginning Fall 2010 forward, third-and fourth-year courses (clinical clerkships) are visible on the transcript, but are not calculated into the GPA. Courses accepted in transfer toward the DO program are calculated in the GPA; however, the transfer coursework is not utilized in the determination of honors or awards. Courses accepted in transfer toward graduate level programs are acknowledged with a grade type of “TR” which awards credit but does not calculate in the GPA.

F/C- | F/C Represents repeated and/or remediated coursework in the professional program taken prior to 1999. Remediated coursework, regardless of test results, received a grade of C-. Beginning in 1999, this value represents only those courses that were passed through the remediation (testing) process, with the highest possible grade being F/C.
F/P Beginning in 2014, this value represents successful remediation of a clinical clerkship and all Pass/Fail courses.
